from the cool-cool-cool dept. Bill Austin wrote to Bluetooth Mailing List, COPENHAGEN, Denmark, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- i-data Printing Systems, an i-data international business unit, will launch wireless printing via the Bluetooth standard. Products making use of this standard are expected to be available from the third quarter of this year. i-data Printing Systems is a member of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). Bluetooth is a wireless standard specification for short range communication between various devices such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), laptop PCs, cellular phones and similar. The standard will provide the basis for a number of wireless applications, including wireless printing, directly from a cellular phone, PDA, laptop, or similar.
i-data Printing Systems will introduce wireless printing via Bluetooth, allowing business travelers using a Bluetooth-enabled laptop, PDA or cellular phone to print documents to any printer with an i-data Printing Systems Xpress LAN printing server. Effectively, a user can simply walk up to a printer with an i-data Xpress LAN printserver and print their documents without the need for cables, complicated printing configuration adjustments or special software. Jorgen Scharnowsky, President of i-data Printing Systems, comments: "We're very pleased to continue our line of innovating new products and technologies by adding wireless printing support via Bluetooth. We're very excited with entering the explosive wireless printing market. Relating to this new technology, we expect to announce a number of strategic alliances in the future." i-data Printing Systems is currently developing a Bluetooth protocol stack, which will become a standard component of the Xpress LAN printserver series. The protocol stack will also be available for sale to business partners and OEM customers. i-data Printing Systems is expected to be one of the first companies to be able to deliver a printing-via-Bluetooth solution.
