from the everyone-should-this dept. This from Yahoo reports that Avis Europe plans to use a Pocket PC from Symbol Technologies to speed up the rental car check-in routine. The say that using the Pocket PC, they can check for car damage in around 2 minutes which will speed the entire check-in process. However, they give no real details as to how the Pocket PC helps them do this. Does it have x-ray vision, low level sonar that can find microscopic dents and scratches, who knows. Maybe they are simply using a wireless LAN connection to check the car in the lot which then automatically gets approved and uploaded into the main system.
