Cadence to Host Wireless Communications Seminar Via Satellite; Cadence to Conduct First-time Nationwide Simulcast Training

Business Wire - May 04, 2000 09:46

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 2000--Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN), the world's leading supplier of electronic design products and services, today announced it will host a Wireless Communications Seminar on the fundamentals of direct spread spectrum code division multiple access (CDMA)-based systems, third-generation Wideband CDMA, Bluetooth physical layer, and turbo codes. The seminar will be a first-time simulcast to ten locations within North America and Canada, including Toronto, San Jose, San Francisco, San Diego, Portland, Phoenix, Miami, Chicago, Boston, and Austin.

Design engineers, managers, and university students can participate in the seminar at any one of the conveniently located simulcast centers. Each learning center will be set up for video conferencing, networked PC technology and Internet access, for one-to-one interaction between each student and the instructor. With the time constraints experienced by designers today, this broadcast is a convenient way to learn and update skills on the fundamentals of wireless design theory.

"This simulcast seminar is in line with our new Internet strategy," said Bonnie Willoughby, director of customer education, North America, at Cadence(R). "It goes beyond the traditional classroom training and condenses key topics in an innovative and interactive format."

The instructor for the seminar is Ahmad Vafaei, Ph.D., an industry expert in the application of simulation tools and modeling for the design, analysis and verification of communication, digital signal processors (DSP) and multimedia systems. Topics he will highlight include orthogonal codes, convolutional codes, and physcial layer of IS-95, Wideband CDMA and Bluetooth, among many others. This intensive, one-day course is slated for May 17th.
