from the read-bluetooth-news dept. Silicon Wave, Inc., a supplier of radio solutions for embedded Bluetooth(TM) functionality, is working with Palm, Inc. on Bluetooth functionality for Palm(TM) handheld computers. Both Palm and Silicon Wave are demonstrating Bluetooth wireless connectivity at the Bluetooth Congress in Monte Carlo, June 13-16. The Silicon Wave solution uses their Odyssey(TM) RF systems-on-chip to deliver full radio, digital logic and lower layer Bluetooth software to the Palm OS(R) platform.
Silicon Wave is providing Palm with its Odyssey SiW015(TM) Radio Modem IC, the SiW016(TM) Link Controller IC, and lower layer Bluetooth protocol software. The SiW015 chip combines the transceiver, synthesizer, VCO and resonator functions with complete modem to deliver the most highly integrated solution for small size, light weight and low power consumption. Size, weight, and battery life are all critical design goals and the Odyssey solution delivers on all three. Bluetooth technology can allow mobile devices, including Palm handhelds, to access a wealth information from the Web, personal computing and communications systems, or from corporate networks without the need for cables. Additionally, data sharing and device control can be accomplished device-to-device, and from one device to as many as seven others, in a Bluetooth personal area network.
