With the FCC recently mandating that by October 2001 all cellular carriers in the U.S. must be able to instantly locate cellular callers to emergency 9-1-1 services, wireless vendors are teaming their resources and expertise to meet the guidelines. To meet this end, Parthus Technologies plc, a developer of semiconductor IP, recently announced its alliance with ARM, a provider of embedded RISC microprocessor solutions. Under the terms of the agreement, ARM will license Parthus’s NavStream™ Platform, which is capable of locating users within the five-meter and the five-second E911 guideline, to incorporate into its core technology. For instance, the ARM7TDMI® core-based NavStream technology is a complete Platform incorporating radio, baseband, and software stacks for both mobile phones and automotive markets. < | >
