Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. has been demonstrating how a personal handyphone system (PHS) handset with a miniature camera and Bluetooth unit can transmit pictures straight to a printer.

Sanyo's PHS with Bluetooth demos have been part of the company's exhibit at the CEATEC Japan 2000, which started Oct. 3 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.

In the demo, both the PHS handset and the thermal transfer printer have the Bluetooth modules on it. Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., is the supplier of the Bluetooth modules. For the PHS handset itself, the unit that houses the module is fitted on back of the phone just on top of the battery. When not in use, the Bluetooth module unit can be detached from the phone. The sales launch date for the product has not been announced.
