from the dept. Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN.), an innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications, today announced a three-year supply agreement with T-Speed Broadband Communications Inc., a fixed wireless high-speed broadband Internet service provider for the business-to-business (B2B) marketplace. Wi-LAN will supply equipment that will form the foundation of T-Speed's planned US nationwide broadband network. "Wi-LAN's products provide the flexibility we need to maximize our service coverage," said N. Mark Varel, president of T-Speed. "Wi-LAN's equipment is a good investment; it is cost effective, and provides the flexibility we need to maximize our service coverage." Wi-LAN's products will enable T-Speed to offer its customers high-speed wireless Internet access at a competitive price. With Wi-LAN equipment, T-Speed offers a symmetrical Internet connection at speeds bursting up to 8.5 megabits per second. The end-user will see results like downloading or uploading a 15 megabit file in as little as 14 seconds, compared to 39 minutes using a dial-up 56k modem. This agreement is integral to T-Speed's implementation plans to build a high-speed wireless network in the United States. T-Speed intends to purchase US$1.5 million of Wi-LAN equipment in the first year for network expansion, and is now directing its efforts to 23 markets. T-Speed is currently serving 163 office buildings in Dallas, Houston, Austin, El Paso, Little Rock, Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Fort Worth. "Helping to build a high-speed wireless network like this is part of Wi-LAN's ongoing strategy to solidify its presence in the US wide area network market," said Graham Smith, Wi-LAN's chief sales and marketing officer. "T-Speed's selection of Wi-LAN's high-speed solutions is further validation that our products meet the needs of a progressive enterprise focused on deploying a reliable, cost-effective network." Under terms of the agreement, Wi-LAN will initially supply T-Speed with its Hopper Plus(TM) 45-24 and 120-24 wireless Ethernet bridges. T-Speed will then incorporate products from Wi-LAN's I.WiLL(TM) product line, which uses Wi-LAN's patented Wide-band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (W-OFDM) technology.
