from the dept. Top Japanese maker of handheld computers Sharp Corp. is taking its popular personal digital assistants (PDAs) overseas using the free open-source Linux operating system, it said on Monday. "The timing is not decided yet, but we hope to have something out before Christmas in the United States," said Sharp spokesman Yoshihisa Ogura. Sharp's current Zaurus line of handheld computers has the largest market share in Japan but is being challenged by new competitors such as U.S. manufacturers Palm Inc. and Handspring Inc., which run Palm's operating system. < | >
