  Airports cracking down on Wireless LANs and Cell phones

Well, it seems that all major airports are stepping into the wireless business by trying to regulate mobile phone and wireless LAN services provided on the airport's grounds. Recently John Linz, acting director of the airport's IT division, said he would deny any requests for installation of wireless LANs or cellular phone microcell sites within the airport until BWI has a contract in place for a third-party provider. The reasons for such actions are safety issues and major drop in pay phone revenues. Most likeley that the later is the major reason. Minneapolis, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville and Charlotte are in the process of imposing similar restrictions. Here is the link to the computerworld article.
