from the dept. The Palm m105 handheld is the continuation of the m100 series, Palm's entry-level product line. The Palm m100 series was created to penetrate new and untapped markets of potential handheld users by focusing on a simple, friendly interface, core handheld functionality, and fun design. Evidence of its success is that 97% of Palm m100 handhelds are purchased by first-time buyers. The m100 handheld has also reached a higher percentage of female and younger buyers than any current Palm handheld. The m105 will build on this success and add additional functionality that we believe will benefit the entry-level user. The Palm m105 handheld is similar to the Palm m100 handheld, with these notable additions: * 8MB RAM (vs 2MG) * Suite of email and Internet software on the CD-ROM * Mobile Internet Kit * Palm HotSync(R) Mail * AOL for Palm OS(R) handhelds * HotSync cradle Both the design of the m105 handheld and the version of the Palm OS(R) are identical to the m100 handheld - ensuring that applications and peripherals will maintain compatibility. The Palm m105 handheld includes: * ROM - 2 MB Masked ROM (4 MB on Japanese device) * RAM - 8 MB DRAM * Processor - 16 MHz Motorola Dragonball(TM) EZ (MC68EZ328), same as on m100 * Display - same as m100 * Shape - same as m100 * Serial - same as m100 * Battery - 2 AAAs * Palm OS software 3.5.1, same as on m100 * Palm Desktop software version 3.1.1 on PC * Palm Desktop software 2.6.1 on MAC Other Things Worth Noting * Same ROM as on the m100 * The Mobile Internet Kit will be included as Bonus Software. * In addition to the Palm MultiMail(R) client that is included in the Mobile Internet Kit, Palm HotSync Mail as well as AOL mail and Instant Messenger are included as Bonus Software. * It will ship with a cradle rather then the cable that the m100 shipped with. The cradle and cable will both work with either the m100 or m105 device and can be bought separately. * In most respects the m105 will be the same as the m100. It will continue to use the Note Pad and Clock applications, the silkscreen buttons added for contrast and clock will still be supported, and when the device is off, the up arrow will still cause the device to turn on and display the clock. * as with the m100, 3 ROM versions will be released: -US (English) -EFIGS (which allows you to pick between English, French, Italian, German, or Spanish) -JAPAN (Japanese) * Faceplates and peripherals designed for the Palm m100 handheld will continue to fit on the m105. In addition 14 new m100 series faceplates will be release along with the m105. < | >
