AnywhereYouGo.com Launches First Independent Wireless Internet TESTING Lab
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2000--
Online Application Testing Finds One in Four WAP Sites Have Serious Errors
AnywhereYouGo.com, the world's largest independent community of wireless developers, today announced the opening of the first independent lab to test WAP applications across multiple devices and gateways. The Wireless Internet Lab provides an extensive range of testing and analysis services to help developers and IT managers accelerate their successful deployment of new WAP applications.
At the same time, AnywhereYouGo.com is releasing the beta version of the first Web-based wireless application testing tool. Developed by AnywhereYouGo.com, this exclusive tool enables developers to test WAP sites online for the first time.
Tests just completed by AnywhereYouGo.com, using this new testing tool across 50 WAP sites, revealed that 28% had errors that were serious enough to prevent users from viewing pages and completing transactions. Sites tested covered a range of companies, from established global enterprises to new WAP ventures.
"The services we're launching today - both lab-based and online -respond to the critical industry-wide need for independent testing," said Lee Wright, CEO of AnywhereYouGo.com. "Developers at systems integrators, agencies, and new WAP start-ups have repeatedly told us about the problems they face moving from development to deployment, only to find that the application's performance falls short of expectations. The Wireless Internet Lab and new online testing provide developers and IT managers with the assurance that, when deployed, their applications will live up to their expectations. This directly contributes to the success of WAP and the wireless industry as a whole."
Ensuring consistent, successful delivery of wireless applications is proving increasingly difficult as the number of new gateways and devices in the marketplace grows each month. Moreover, the stakes are high, with Strategy Analytics forecasting that mobile e-commerce transactions will total 14 billion ransactions in 2005, for a market totaling $200 billion.
James Pearce, UK Director of AnywhereYouGo.com and director of The Wireless Internet Lab, understands the growing complexity that wireless developers face. "There are 27 announced WAP phones and more than a half dozen gateways in use today. Since each product has unique characteristics, every >combination of device and gateway can cause unpredictable results >and differing application performance."
One firm that encountered these challenges is Kizoom, the UK's first wireless travel advisory service. According to Damian Bown, CEO of Kizoom: "We found that performance in the field during our initial deployment bore little resemblance to what we had seen during the development phase, using the software development kits and emulators from the phone manufacturers. Even though we test in-house, we know that we're simply not able to keep up with the growing number of devices and gateways. AnywhereYouGo.com's Wireless Internet Lab services will help give us the speed and confidence we need going forward."
Validating new WAP applications
The Wireless Internet Lab tests applications using actual WAP handsets and gateways, integrated with AnywhereYouGo.com's proprietary testing software. This gives developers the confidence that, once deployed, their wireless sites will function correctly across multiple devices. (See figure below.)
The service ensures that WAP sites are . . . -- Compliant with industry standards Compatible with the unique characteristics of different devices and gateways
-- Easily usable and navigable After deployment, The Wireless Internet Lab provides ongoing testing to ensure that applications continue to function correctly as new devices and gateways are released. About AnywhereYouGo.com
