  Nokia GPRS phones to be four times faster Than GSM

Nokia said on Thursday its newly unveiled high-speed general packet radio services (GPRS) phones will be able to send and receive data four times faster than GSM phones.

Nokia Mobile Phones spokesman Pekka Isosomppi told Reuters the phones will have a data transfer rate of around 40 kilobits per second (kbs) based on current GPRS networks and depending on the call traffic.

When GPRS networks are upgraded and expanded, the new models will be able to support around 60 kbs transfer rates, he said. Current GSM phones send and receive data at some 9.6 kbs.
